Adding competitors: teams, players, horses and seeds

4 min read

Competitors are the teams, players, horses or couples in the real event. The tab is named after them, so you'll see Teams, Players or Horses depending on the sport.

For featured events and linked football or tennis competitions, the field fills itself in. If you see Field pending, the organisers of the real event haven't announced it yet; we'll import it automatically, or press Check now.

Adding them yourself

  • Add (Add Team, Add Player and so on) — one at a time. The seed is optional. Duplicate names are refused.
  • Paste field — one per line. You can paste names alone, or 1, Name, or Name, 1, or straight from a spreadsheet. Each row is checked before saving. This replaces the whole existing field, so paste the complete list.
  • Generate with AI — drafts the field for you. Nothing is saved until you press Confirm, so check it over first.
  • AI suggest seeds — proposes a seed for each competitor, which you can review the same way.

You can have up to 128 competitors.

Seeds, and why they matter

A seed says how strong a competitor is — 1 is the favourite. It's called Seed for knockout events, Predicted finish for a league, and Favourite order for a race or one-off event.

The draw uses seeds to split the field into pots so nobody gets all the favourites and nobody gets stuck with none. How the draw works explains it properly.

Seeds are optional, but it's all or nothing: if some competitors have seeds and some don't, the draw will stop and ask you to fix the field first.

After the draw

Once competitors have been handed out, the list is locked so nobody's team changes under them. To edit it you'd need to reopen the draw, which reshuffles everything — so get the field right first.
